John Filitz is a researcher with One Earth Future’s Research program (OEFR). His past experience includes economic policy development, institutional development, and research on varied topics in multiple jurisdictions. John led the development of the Africa: Illicit Trade component of the Stable Seas program’s Maritime Security Index. His current research centers on transnational organized crime in the maritime sector with a focus on seaport governance in emerging economies. He holds a master’s degree in Development Studies and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Economic History, both from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. John is currently studying towards a Masters of Science in Information Assurance at Regis University.
