Stable Seas Offers Maritime Security Overview at High Level Gulf of Guinea Symposium

Obangame Maritime Security

In March, Stable Seas was invited to attend the Senior Leadership Symposium of the Exercise OBANGAME EXPRESS 2019. Obangame Express is an exercise at sea in the Gulf of Guinea with participation from signatory countries of the Yaoundé Code of Conduct and is intended to improve maritime coordination and communication among navies.  The Senior Leadership Symposium allows heads of participating naval forces to further discuss the most pressing maritime security challenges in the region. Co-hosted with U.S. Naval Forces Africa and the Nigerian Navy and sponsored by U.S. Africa Command, this year’s Senior Leadership Symposium was held in Lagos, Nigeria from 19-21 March and saw representatives from over a dozen naval forces in the region, as well as international organizations such as the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, INTERPOL, and BIMCO. Stable Seas was invited to both chair and present on the “Regional Threat Assessment” panel, which set the scene for continued conversation on maritime security challenges in the wider West and Central Africa region.
